WWF is one of the world’s largest environmental organisations and focuses on the conservation and preservation of our planet and its inhabitants.
The Nature Conservancy is regarded as the world’s leading conservation organisation, protecting ecologically important land and water. It has more than 1 million members. It has protected more than 119 million acres of land and 5000 miles of rivers and also operates more than 100 marine projects globally.
IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) determines pragmatic solutions to the world’s most pressing environment and development challenges. On a global scale it supports scientific research, manages field projects and brings governments, non-government organisations, United Nations agencies, companies and local communities together to develop and implement policy, laws and best practice. Members include more than 1,000 government and NGO member organisations, and almost 11,000 volunteer scientists in more than 160 countries.
World Land Trust US is a non-profit organisation dedicated to saving rainforests and endangered species. It buys land in areas that are in danger, preventing anyone else from coming along and laying it to waste. According to the website, to date, WLT-US has saved 1.7 million acres of rainforest and other critical habitats at imminent threat.
Google may not be the first company one thinks of when one thinks of green. But the company has been millions of dollars to incorporate green practices in its office buildings, including solar panel covered car parks and energy-efficient data centres. It’s also invested millions of dollars in various alternative energy projects, including the world’s highest solar energy heliostat tower and California’s largest wind farm.
The International Energy Agency
The International Energy Agency (IEA) is a US-based organisation dedicated to the reliable, affordable and clean energy. For the past 38 years, the IEA has helped countries co-ordinate a collective response to major disruptions in oil supply through the release of emergency oil stocks to the markets. Its focus has expanded over the years to include: energy security, economic development, environmental awareness and world-wide engagement on environmental issues.

US Energy Information Administration for Kids is a lovely website designed to make learning about energy – fossil-fuel-based and renewable – fun and engaging. There are games and tips and even lesson plans for teachers.
